Publix Deli Clerk

June 2018 • St. Petersburg, FL

What I liked

Very great place to work to pick up some extra cash. The company promotes within and gives you many opportunities to succeed. They understand the heavy load students take on in college and are more than happy to work with your busy schedule.

What I wish was different

I wish I kept in mind how important school and my classes are to me while working so much. While I was trying to built myself up within the company, I got very caught up in work rather than my classes. This is okay, but I let this go on for way too long. Publix understands how heavy school can be, so there was no reason I had to work as much as I did, even though the extra money was nice.

Advice

I advise you to stick with the company for as long as necessary until you figure out what is next. Publix creates several experiences you can take with you, as well as life-long benefits.

Grocery Store Clerk

February 2019 • Gulf Shores, AL

What I liked

Environment was a balance of calm and fast paced because it's not like other grocery stores and I worked nights, but the store is extremely busy during summer.

What I wish was different

More overtime was available.

Advice

Publix is a great place to work, especially for those who have anxiety about going into the work force. It's a great starter job that kindly eases you into the work space and gives you retail experience. Team Leaders are typically encouraging and willing to help workers work on their flaws and mistakes so they can become better employees.

Customer Service Staff

July 2017 • Pensacola, FL

What I liked

My managers are positive, encouraging, and always look for ways to improve what the associates are doing.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have worked more over the summer, but I understand how hard it is to manage scheduling of 80+ employees.

Advice

I would encourage everyone to work in a retail position at some point in life. It opened my eyes to see how trivial most shopping complaints are.

Front Service Clerk

May - August 2018 • Orange Beach, AL

What I liked

The company relationships. From managers to coworkers to customers, no one was a stranger and everyone was willing to help out. People would come to this store knowing it was known for premier customer service and they left with an even better experience than they planned.

What I wish was different

Advice

Go in with a very open mind. You can do many different tasks in a day and while they don't look appealing, you will come out more knowledgable and probably meet new people along the way.

Stock Clerk

November 2018 • Cocoa Beach, FL

What I liked

It was a versatile experience that teaches social skills, as well as time management. Not only that, but the physical aspect of the job allowed some healthy amount of exercise as I had worked. As an added enjoyment, it was nice to be able to see friendly faces all the time and be apart of such a wonderful community setting.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have had a little more help in the workplace. It can be easy to feel understaffed at times, which can become quite overwhelming and exhausting. Additionally, I wish i had more of a schedule. I never knew what days I would be working each week, and never had a definitive day off. It would always be random

Advice

A summer/part time job is a great way to gain some experience and learn about general work settings, but make sure you create a better organized schedule. This way you can better plan out your days off to get something done around the house, or even make the time for friends. Also, always offer your help with a smile in the work[lace!
