As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in optimizing processes, enhancing productivity, creating SolidWorks engineering drawings, and contributing to our mission of excellence.

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team for a summer internship program. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, the intern will create SolidWorks engineering drawings of our products, document and time study our manufacturing processes, and perform quality assurance checks of manufactured and purchased products.

Responsibilities

  • Create engineering drawings of our manufactured products using SolidWorks.
  • Verify accuracy of supplier drawings for purchased parts and create engineering drawings for purchased items where needed.
  • Conduct time studies of existing processes.  Collect weight, dimensional data, and labor time of Allied products for input into the Netsuite ERP system.
  • Observe and document company processes to create standard operating procedures and work instructions using technical writing and photos formatted in Microsoft Office. Offer suggestions of areas for improvement using lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
  • Follow an AQL plan to inspect stock and finished goods.  Then record, track, and analyze the resulting quality data.
  • Actively contribute to project meetings, brainstorming sessions, and knowledge sharing activities within the production team.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Proficiency in Solidworks, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.  Netsuite ERP a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for problem-solving and process optimization.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to create, read and interpret engineering drawings.
