Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented DevOps Engineer Intern to assist in managing and automating our development, deployment, and monitoring processes. You will work with modern tools and cloud platforms to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our applications. This role provides an excellent opportunity for candidates who want to gain hands-on experience with DevOps practices and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and configure cloud infrastructure for scalable and reliable application hosting on Heroku.
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and deployment processes.
  • Configure monitoring tools to track application performance and generate alerts for issues.
  • Manage and optimize cloud-based databases, including MongoDB Atlas and Firebase.
  • Implement secrets management to securely store sensitive data like API keys and credentials.
  • Perform infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or similar.
  • Set up auto-scaling policies and load balancing to handle traffic efficiently.
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure smooth integration of the development and deployment workflows.
  • Document DevOps processes, pipelines, and infrastructure architecture.

Requirements

  • Cloud Platforms: Basic knowledge of cloud platforms like Heroku for application deployment, as well as familiarity with AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
  • Containerization: Familiarity with Docker for containerized applications (optional, but beneficial).
  • CI/CD Tools: Experience or willingness to learn tools like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI/CD for automating workflows.
  • Scripting: Basic knowledge of scripting languages like Bash or Python for automating tasks.
  • Version Control: Proficiency with Git and GitHub for managing repositories.
  • Monitoring and Alerts: Knowledge of monitoring tools like Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Test Lab, or other similar tools.
  • Database Management: Familiarity with cloud-based databases such as MongoDB Atlas and Firebase.
  • Security Practices: Basic understanding of HTTPS, SSL/TLS certificates, and secrets management.
  • Networking: Basic understanding of networking concepts like DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.

Preferred Skills (Bonus Points!)

  • Experience with Terraform or any Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tool for managing cloud infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes for container orchestration.
  • Understanding of serverless architectures (e.g., Firebase Functions).
  • Knowledge of logging and log aggregation tools such as the ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana).
  • Familiarity with auto-scaling policies and cost optimization in cloud environments.
  • Understanding of deployment strategies (e.g., Blue/Green, Canary).
