Summer Internship
Special Inspection Services, LLC is a full-service inspection and materials testing firm providing a full range of structural special inspections, construction materials testing, and laboratory services. We operate two offices providing services primarily to the western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky regions.
At this time, we are seeking one (1) student for a summer internship. The student will be required to:
- Review civil, architectural, and structural plans and specifications
- Complete documentation of field tests and observations
- Perform field testing services of soil, concrete, masonry, aggregate, and asphalt
- Perform laboratory materials testing on soil, concrete, aggregate, and masonry
- Clean and maintain testing equipment
- Communicate with management and technicians
The student must have the following qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of commercial and industrial construction
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs. or more of test samples and equipment
- Equipment includes a loaded wheelbarrow and nuclear density gauge
- Samples include concrete test cylinders and 5 gallon buckets of soil
- A willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work and maneuver equipment on construction sites
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a routine drug test
The following are preferred, but not required:
- American Concrete Institute Field Testing Technician – Grade 1
- Troxler Nuclear Gauge Safety Training or Equivalent
- Experience in construction materials testing
Pay rate is based on the level of experience and certifications. Typical hours are 7 to 4 Monday through Friday with occasional weekends. Construction schedules may also require earlier or later work hours.
SIS will provide all necessary training, personnel protective equipment (PPE), and transportation (from the office to the work area only).
