Co–Op/Intern
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide a varied and applicable work experience with personal soft skills growth for college students participating in a co-op education or internship program by providing a unique and well-rounded co-op experience in field and office positions. A Co-op/Intern’s supervisor will depend on their semester assignment. This position in non-exempt.
OFFICE DUTIES:
- Draft, input and update project schedule. Communicate effectively to all related parties
- Process shop drawings and submittals following prescribed procedures
- Perform weekly and monthly safety and quality control audits following prescribed Danis procedures
- Assist Project Manager in purchasing, invoice approval, quotes and change orders, engineering and quality control, and safety processes ad described in the Danis Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Expedient distribution of revised documents to all involved parties
- Handle spare parts and O & M Manuals in accordance with contract document requirements
- Maintain official project drawing log, including drawing updates and document files
- Assist estimating and pre-construction staff with computer takeoff, plan distribution, subcontractor notification, bid day assistance, cost history input and other everyday estimating duties
- Perform additional assignments and assume additional responsibilities as directed
- FIELD DUTIES:
- Assist superintendent in daily and weekly quality control and safety audits
- Drawing document tracking and updates
- Assist superintendent with Corporate Safety Program, productivity and schedule analysis
- Field layout and surveying for self perform crews
- Assist Danis work crews as assigned by superintendent
- Assist sub contractor coordination and in place quantities
- Perform additional field assignments and additional responsibilities as directed
- ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the training / orientation of employees when needed
- Assist in the employment processes as requested
- Promote teamwork and positive communication among employees
- Attend and participate in miscellaneous site meetings, sharing knowledge, information and ideas
- Participate in Danis functions as appropriate
- SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic understanding of construction practices, processes, and standards
- Basic leadership and supervisory skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Basic computer skills
- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Enrolled in a college Co-operative Education program or a college intern program within an applicable undergraduate program
- Minimum of one term of college education completed in applicable programs
- WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Spends much of their time in an office environment, either at their desk or around the office/trailer. Often travels by automobile to corporate offices. Often visits construction site where weather and conditions can reach extremes. Regularly exposed to blowing dirt and other airborne materials
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Occasionally may lift up to 50 pounds. May spend a number of hours daily standing and walking. Must be able to regularly work long hours (8+).
