Mechanical Engineer

Job Description:

CSI is looking for a product engineer to join the product engineering group.  Product Engineering Group is CSI’s New Product Development R&D group. It acts as CSI knowledge base on all the past and current design; it is also tasked with creating new closure designs meeting customer needs worldwide. 

The individual will have the responsibility to improve legacy products and create new products. In this role one will get experience working closely with multi-disciplinary teams, which include customers, project managers, technology & materials group, manufacturing and product testing laboratory.  The product development projects span from concept to commercial deployment of closure designs. The skilled candidate will design and develop methods to understand underlying principles that dictate the performance of the closures.   The candidate will be responsible to innovative and creating future closures. The individual will interact across a broad range of levels of expertise, geographic regions as well as stay up-to date on the new developments in technical and patent literature. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Meet customers to determine the CTQs or needs for a successful product.
  2. Understand what is valued by the customer and unmet needs in key markets
  3. Developing technical strategies and tactics to execute the plan to meet and exceed the requirements 
  4. Coming up with initial design concepts using engineering tools
  5. Selecting the best concepts for prototyping and evaluating its feasibility and robustness
  6. Conduct product testing internally and at customer locations
  7. Systematic, Innovative methodology for problem solving
  8. Define effective experiments, make data-based decisions using statistics
  9. Work with manufacturing and regional team for the deployment of the product.
  10. Accountability for the results of their work

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

 

Educational and Other Skills Requirements:

  • B.S. or an M.S. degree Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline with 1 to 5 years mechanical design and/or engineering experience.
  • Fluent in 3D modeling (SolidWorks, Creo Elements / ProE or equivalent)
  • Experience with FEA in product development a plus
  • Ability to use strength of material hand calculations to create base design 
  • Knowledge of injection and compression molding is a plus 
  • Knowledge and previous experience in the caps and closures market is a plus
  • Hands-on and creative approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to see the ‘Big Picture’ and organize and focus activities around diverse program needs 
  • Ability to understand underlying Physics and to create cause and effect model 
  • Intellectual curiosity, innovative outlook and ability to develop new design concepts
  • Knowledge and use of design for six sigma / statistical data analysis with respect to R&D
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments, Concept of Robustness and Optimization a plus
  • Time management skills with proven track record of successfully leading projects from concept to deployment. 
  • Good interpersonal communication skills for working within a matrix team environment
