Quality Engineer I

About the Role

We’re seeking a Quality Engineer I to help build quality into our projects, processes, and products—working closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure compliance, consistency, and continuous improvement. Under minimal supervision, you’ll support quality engineering and inspection activities across existing product lines and newly transferred lines, ensuring conformity to drawings, specifications, and Engineering Change Notifications, while maintaining strong alignment with the Quality Management System (QMS) and Yokogawa manufacturing standards. This role reports to the Manager, Quality Assurance.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

Quality Planning, Audits & Compliance

  • Develop and implement quality plans including measurement criteria, targets, procedures, and improvement plans.
  • Conduct internal line audits related to manufacturing activities in alignment with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Support scheduled external audits and provide required documentation and evidence of compliance (e.g., DEKRA/ATEX, CSA, FM, Intertek, UL).
  • Monitor compliance to regulatory standards and ensure manufacturing processes and products conform to requirements.

Metrics, Reporting & Problem Solving

  • Maintain tracking systems for quality metrics (including total units produced, total failures, and Pass-Through Rate).
  • Analyze quality data and report insights and recommendations to leadership to improve customer satisfaction and internal processes.
  • Coordinate investigations of customer complaints and support corrective actions, including effectiveness checks for corrective and preventive actions.

Nonconforming Materials & Corrective Actions

  • Process nonconforming material reports; issue reject notifications and Corrective Action Requests (internally and to suppliers).
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings to identify rejected items and determine defect causes with senior manufacturing personnel.
  • Implement supplier audits/surveys and monitor supplier inspection/test data to confirm compliance.

Procedures, Safety & Quality Ownership

  • Create, maintain, and implement procedures that align with Yokogawa manufacturing policies; ensure procedures remain current and accurate.
  • Uphold uncompromising quality—having the authority to stop work processes if quality is believed to be compromised.
  • Contribute to workplace safety through near-miss reporting encouragement and participation in safety incident investigations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.

What You Bring (Qualifications)

Education & Experience

  • B.S. degree in electrical, mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering from an accredited university or 3 years of Quality Assurance experience in a related industry.
  • Relevant experience/knowledge such as industrial codes, machining/fabrication, troubleshooting and root cause analysis, and ISO auditing/accreditations.

Key Skills & Strengths

  • Strong organizational and planning skills; ability to multitask in a dynamic team environment.
  • Comfort with mechanical/electrical/process inspection and analysis; report writing and group presentations.
  • Experience supporting internal and supplier audits; continuous improvement mindset (Six Sigma experience is a plus).

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes/airborne particles, chemicals, outdoor conditions, heat, electrical risk, and vibration.
  • Physical demands include standing/walking/sitting; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; vision requirements include depth perception and color vision (reasonable accommodations available).

Our Culture & Values

We’re guided by our core values: Respect, Value Creation, Collaboration, Integrity, and Gratitude. We believe quality is a team sport—and we support one another with high standards, clear communication, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement.

Why You’ll Want This Role

If you’re early in your quality engineering career (or bringing solid QA experience) and want a role where you can grow your audit skills, strengthen supplier quality capabilities, and lead meaningful improvements in a manufacturing environment, this is a strong next step.
